On September 19, 2016, The NACSEARElief team scheduled to visit the ANDUHAW crab fattening livelihood project in Brgy. San Juan, Hinatuan, Surigao Del Sur in Mindanao. ANDUHAW is the name of the organization which stands for “Active Natives Develop and Unite for Human and Aqua Marine Wealth, Inc. “. This crab fattening project was started last May 2015. The organization is composed of 107 active individual members, including its officials, and among those are New Apostolic Church members. The members are continuously doing their best efforts to improve the project and thereby helping providing them with income for their families.

Project description includes purchasing thin crabs in cheapest cost, then storing it in mud crab fattening pond which is built voluntarily by all members. After 15 days of fattening, it is then ready to be harvested and the members sell it to the market. Their profit is doubled or above price of the original cost of production. Each process is called “CYCLE”. The NACSEARelief Program had been supporting this project from the 1st cycle up to 6th cycle. Afterwards, the organization is left on their own to continue the livelihood project although the NACSEARelief Program will continuously monitor their progress.

In addition, it was also agreed by the PO (People’s Organization), that at the end of the CYCLE, 80% of the profit will be equally divided by all the beneficiaries and 20% will goes to People’s Organization account.

Some couples of months ago, unfortunately, they need to temporarily stop the project operation due to some unpredictable and beyond control reasons. Firstly, the mud crab pond was affecting by El Nino, hence crabs can’t survive over hot temperature. Secondly, the crab cost in market went up doubled to its original priced and it is not profitable to purchase at that time.

But good thing recently is that rainy season had now started and the crab cost in market went back to its normal priced. The PO chairman along with the members has now planning to resume their project operation for 2nd cycle. Their target time is in the 2nd week of October 2016. They meet a good crab supplier with a right priced offer.

The community is very happy and grateful. This project was not only helping their livelihood but also drawing the community to be united and helping each other for a better life.

In behalf of the members, Mrs. Liza Baid, the chairman of the PO (People’s Organization) would like to extend their gratitude to NACSEARElief Program and to its president Mr. Urs Hebeisen for the great support.
