Reports reached us from South Cotabato that this year’s dry season has taken catastrophic proportion. The Philippine government has declared state of calamity (http://www.gmanetwork.com/news/story/561816/scitech/weather/seven-provinces-under-state-of-calamity-from-el-nino-s-effects).

NACSEARelief has responded and send out a team to reach the affected families. Team leader Cris Ronquillo reports 8 congregations they could bring basic food necessities to 511 families (145 not NAC members). The livelihood is extremely affected because of destroyed crops, nothing is growing anymore. The last rain was 6 months ago. Some barrios folks are venturing into other source of income such as making bamboo sticks and charcoals. All are hoping for the next planting season which is supposed to be next month but will depend on rain. We will continue our efforts and appreciate donations to provide food for the starving communities.
